Pazham pori recipe/ Banana Fritters recipe/Kerala Style Pazham Pori

“Pazham Pori” is one of the popular snack and is loved by most in Kerala. Very easy to make and requires no great cooking skills. Anyone can make this quickly.

Pazham refers to banana in malayalam. This dish is as simple as it looks like in the picture. Bananas are coated with batter and are deep fried. You also can make variations by adding little red chilli powder to the batter but I have not done any such variations today.

Another very similar snack we make in Konkani cuisine is “Kele podi” which has the spicy outer coat and sweet banana inside. We do not use maida/APF in this recipe instead use rice powder/Rice flour. I shall write on them very soon though

I have used Nendra Pazham in making this pori today which gives an outstanding taste compared to other type of bananas. You can choose any ๐Ÿ™‚ The making doesn’t require more than 5 minutes. Whip the ingredients into a smooth batter, dip the bananas and deep fry them and see your done !

I have not added any baking soda to this. I found no much difference though. You can add if you want to ๐Ÿ™‚

Ingredients:

Pazham/Ripe yet firm Banana – 2 (Peeled and Slicedย lengthwise approx 3″)

Maida/ All purpose flour – 1 cup

Sugar – 2 tsp

Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp

Cardamom powder – 1/2 tsp

Salt – a pinch

Coconut oil – for deep frying

Method:

  1. In a mixing bowl, add maida, sugar, Turmeric powder, cardamom powder and salt
  2. Mix everything with a whisk adding little water at a time and make a lump free batter. The batter should neither be too thick nor thin.
  3. Now heat oil for frying the pori
  4. Once hot, dip one slice of banana in the batter, coat it well and drop it into the hot oil
  5. Fry till they turn golden in colour
  6. Drain excess oil by placing the fried fritters on a kitchen tissue.
  7. Similarly deep fry all the remaining poris and serve hot with tea ๐Ÿ™‚

Tips:

  • You also can add 1/2 tsp of red chilli powder to the batter to make a spicy n sweet combo. In that case please eliminate sugar from the mentioned recipe.
  • You can also use whole wheat flour to make a healthier version, but I did not like the taste last time I had tried it. You might like it because we all have a different palate ๐Ÿ™‚
  • It is not mandatory to use coconut oil for frying. You can use any oil of your choice ๐Ÿ™‚
