Onion Bhaji recipe / How to prepare Onion bhaji

One of the simplest and quick bhaji to prepare. Goes well with dosas and poories. This recipe I bet will take less than 8 minutes for you to make and would require just few ingredients. I make this recipe when I make Maland tuppa set dosa in which I use onion bhaji as a accompaniment with coconut chutney topped with hot ghee. I shall blog very soon on that recipe of malnad tuppa set which is popular in Hassan, Karnataka.

Ingredients:

Onion – 1 large (chopped lengthwise)

Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp

Curry leaves – 1 spring

Green chillies – 2 (slit)

Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp

Coriander leaves – finely chopped

Asafoetida – a pinch

Oil – 1 tbsp

Salt to taste

Method:

  1. In a kadhai, allow 1 tbsp oil to heat
  2. Once hot, add mustard seeds and allow them to crackle
  3. Add curry leaves and allow them to curl
  4. Add Asafoetida
  5. Add slit chillies and chopped onions
  6. Fry till the onions are cooked but not mushy
  7. Season with salt and little water if you wish to and mix well.
  8. Add finely chopped coriander leaves
  9. Serve with dosas or poori 🙂
