Masala Akki rotti / Masala Rice roti

Simplest and easiest breakfast recipe. “Akki” in kannada means “Rice” We use rice flour in making this dish. This is one of the most common breakfast recipe in karnataka. The procedure to make the dough won’t take more than 10 minutes for sure. There are many variations in the making. You can also add chopped dill leaves in the initial stages when you make the dough.

My mom makes this rotti directly on tawa. I first make rotti on a butter paper or baking sheet and then put it on the hot tawa. You can do whichever way you like and is easy for you. If you add dill leaves, it tastes heavenly in aroma and is very nutritious. I have also tried this rotti by adding chopped and sauted methi leaves and soaked channa dal and that tasted good too. I shall post them soon.

Shaping the rotti is a knack and comes with practise. The thickness is left to your choice. You can make them very thin and roast them crisp on tawa or make it thick and cook them. I prefer masala rotis to be a little thick.
